Shelby Poteet is an experienced litigator representing commercial clients of varying sizes in diverse and often complex actions in federal and state courts. Her practice at Franklin Soto Leeds focuses on the representation of parties in commercial bankruptcy actions and related adversary actions, including secured and unsecured creditors, debtors, and debtors-in-possession, as well as the representation of policyholders in commercial insurance disputes. She has previously handled a wide range of other types of business matters and has significant experience with contract disputes, fraud claims, business torts, high dollar commercial collections, consumer protection defense, subrogation, legal and medical malpractice cases, and class action defense.
Before joining Franklin Soto Leeds, Shelby served as a law clerk to the Honorable Margaret M. Mann for approximately four years. Before serving as a law clerk, Shelby worked at a large national law firm.
Shelby is a San Diego native. She obtained her bachelor’s degree at San Diego State University in 2009 and her juris doctorate from California Western School of Law in 2013.
Shelby currently serves as the Vice President of the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum. She is a program producer at the California Bankruptcy Forum’s 36th Annual Insolvency Conference. She was a co-author for a chapter in the “Guide for In-House Counsel: Practical Resource to Cutting Edge Issues” regarding automatic stays. She has been a moderator for programs on a variety of bankruptcy issues and had spoken on developments in California and Federal Civil Procedure.
